hey, is a reinstallation of windows possible with a "product recovery cd
rom"? i had that one to install windows vista.

i dont have a pc like from hp, dell or w/e, its a pc i could say wich
parts i want and the guys in the shop made it and set something like a
part of windows on it, so i only had to install a part of windows,
thats why i got a cd instead of a dvd...

is a _complete__reinstallation_ possible or anything like that? i dont
wanna try it already, id like to know everything about it, because i
got many documentcs i dont wanna delete

You need to check with the person who created it to be sure.
but it is probably a "recovery" DVD

At any rate, if you use it you will probably *ERASE* all data on the drive

so do not use it unless you backup all your data,

then confirm your backup is good...

You can simply burn all the data directly to DVD's
or copy it to an external harddrive

but: could it be that this cd cant make a complete installation of
windows, only a special system recovery, until the "beginning " ?

You'd need to ask the person who created it,
no one here could possibly know what they did

I would insist on the original Vista install DVD so you can make sure you
have a valid system. You may have a repair CD that is available on the net,
but that is of limited use and doesn't assure that you don't have a hacked
system that could give you problems later.

like most other posters have said you would be wise to contact the person
who built your PC and find out what sort of CD he has give to you.

You might also like to check the contents of the CD. If when you open the CD
in Windows Explorer the CD contains the following folders - Boot (containing
bcd; boot.sdi; bootfix.bin) Sources (containing Boot.win) and a file called
Bootmgr, then all that you have is a Vista Recovery CD which will not
install anything. This is simply used to repair startup problems and a few
other things.

You don't say which version of Vista you have because also on the Vista
Recovery CD (outlined above) is an option to run Complete PC Backup (You
must have Vista Ultimate, Business or Enterprise to use this). It maybe, and
I only say maybe, that the supplier of your PC made a backup on your hard
drive and expects you to use the recovery CD if anything goes wrong.

What I can't understand is your comment about you stipulating which parts of
windows you wanted to be installed. All PC suppliers, even one man band
suppliers, that I know install all of Windows. It is far to complex and time
consuming to install just parts. They would actually need a cut down disc to
perform this task and Microsoft don't supply those.

hmm i dont know wich part of windows was installed, in my opinition
there was nothing installed, it was like a completely new
installation...
i got windows vista business 32 bit.
and that what you said that the supplier made something like ba backup
could be real, because i got already about 30 gb ( or more ) on my hd
when i installed vista new. i wont try anything for now because i need
my pc a lot at the moment
but i think the best would be to ask those guys that made the pc, thank
you guys

Your best bet, Banana Joe, is to ask the guys who built the PC. They know
what they have installed and can give you the answers you need. As you have
pointed out, you need your PC, so don't do anything without consulting the
people that built the PC first.
