Default Windows Impossible Transfer

I am trying to transfer apps and data from an old XP desktop to a new
Vista Business laptop.

I have now tried to transfer 11 times. It hangs, it loses its
connections, it "fails" (no other information given), it dies on one
machine while the other machine thinks it's still going. It does
everything but transfer.

What part of that could we call "easy"? What a smell pile of doo doo
this application is.

Well you cannot transfer applications by this method anyway. You have to
INSTALL them on the new machine using the original installation media.
