Vista Ultimate memory Issue
Dear all, I have a Dell Vostro 1510 laptop with the following specification: CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.5 GHz, 6 Mb L2 Cache, 800 MHz FSB, T9300 H.D.D: 320 Gbyte 5400 rpm. O.S: Windows Vista Ultimate, Linux Ubuntu 8.04.1 LTS (installed under windows) RAM: 3 Gb, DDR2, 800 MHz FSB Graphics chipset: Gefoce 8400GS, 256 Mb onboard + 1.5 Gb Shared I have recently increased the RAM to 4 Gb. Bios Setup has recognized 4 Gbytes of Ram. Windows also shows 4 Gbytes of Ram when in System specification in Mycomputer menu Properties. But In task maganer, It still inicates 3 Gb of ram. My graphics chipset uses about 1.5 Gb of ram from system's ram. Does it mean that I will not notice any improvement in my system's performance at all? or there might in graphics? Hi,
The 32-bit version with SP1 installed will show all 4GB, but actual use is still restricted to around 3GB (more like 2.7-3.3 depending on the system). -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org My thoughts http://rick-mvp.blogspot.com "Mehrdad Pourfat" wrote in message ... Regards, Mehrdad Pourfathi -- Mehrdad Pourfat As you've been told, the maximum addressable RAM in a 32 bit OS is 4GB, which includes address space for peripherals, etc., typically leaving you with 3 GB, more or less. In your case, much less, as you're using 1.5 GB of it for your video card. Why so much? If you reduce it to, say, .5 GB shared, that will free up a Gig for your OS, programs, etc. |

Vista Ultimate memory Issue
Also, make sure you go get the latest drivers for all your hardware since
some drives fail when you have 4G in the system. Mine get rebooting because the network drivers were not compatible with the 4G Ram. Finally got an update and now is all OK. Vista Ultimate memory Issue
Because of the RAM issues, Vista SP1 will report the full 4 gB. But that
does not change the fact that Vista 32 bit will only use a bit over 3 gB of RAM. In most systems the excess won't hurt you - but in older systems there are known issues with DMA transfers and excess RAM. - John "Lorin" wrote: Also, make sure you go get the latest drivers for all your hardware since some drives fail when you have 4G in the system. Vista Ultimate memory Issue
The thing is, it shows a 3 Gb of physical memory in task manager, Exactly the same amout in showed before I upgraded it. But it shows 4 Gb in "My Computer" Properties. I was checking each Slot's FSB. the original is 677 Mhz but the new one is 800 Mhz. Would that be a problem? my Lappy can't support more than 677. I think the 800 Mhz one will work at 677 and won't do any harm. correct If I am wrong please. -- Mehrdad Pourfat |

Vista Ultimate memory Issue
Hi,
If SP1 is installed, then the pc will show that 4GB is installed. That does not change the restriction on how much can actually be addressed by the 32-bit installation as has been explained by nearly every response you have received thus far. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org My thoughts http://rick-mvp.blogspot.com "Mehrdad Pourfat" wrote in message ...
