My father-in-law has windows vista home premium.
He can no longer get any automatic updates, this generates error code 80246008. Support information refers to a corrupt BITS service. However, the BITS service is missing among the Services. Downloading files from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940520 does not restore the BITS service. Can anyone advise? Many thanks, Koen |

Hello Koen,
My 2 cents ;-) See if anything here helps. 0x80246008 WU_E_DM_FAILTOCONNECTTOBITS A download manager operation failed because the download manager was unable to connect the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS). http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=910337 You receive an error message when you try to download updates from the Windows Update Web site or from the Microsoft Update Web site, or when you try to start the Background Intelligent Transfer Service 0x80246008 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/916251 Good luck ÆŽ -=- "Koen" wrote: My father-in-law has windows vista home premium. Hi all,
Thanks for your replies! Important is that the BITS service is simply not present and that this is a Vista machine not an XP. Suggestions by Mick and Salvador probably for one of these reasons did not solve the issue. Engel: I'll pass on yours, but Vista is not mentioned, only XP and other platforms. I come back with more news asap. Koen, my advice link does apply to vista, if you read down a little bit.
You tell it is Vista advice., by the start ORB Also, at that download link of yours that you tried, did you try the manual way to fix it. Manual way is below the 32bit and 64bit download links. -- Mad Mike "Koen" wrote: Hi all, Thanks for your replies!
