Default Strange Question..

try this:
http://www.gur.in/j/index.php?option... nload&gid=97
run a full scan and it will detect that hidden mysterious stuff.
Also try this:
StartrunMRT and run a complete scan.

To answer the 2 quesitons, yes I have gone through the HD looking for
larger then normal files, and can't seem to find any although I will look
again. and yes Diskeeper is running in VSS mode.. Thanks for the help
guys..

Have a look at your live messenger folder, checking the size of the folder
against the total contents. You will need to select view hidden files on the
folder options view tab.

Live messenger used to have a bug under XP that caused it to report a
folders size as several Gb when in fact it held a few k. I haven't seen it
in Vista yet but I'm fairly new to it.

The solution was to rename the offending folder .old and create a new folder
with the original name and then copy the contents over (making sure you
copied any hidden files as well). You can delete the .old folder once you
are sure everything is working as normal.

glitches that have mounted up. Takes some time, but it's good for the
soul.

Pretty amazing what folks will put up with. My main computer has been
running Gentoo Linux for about three years now - I've not reinstalled,
just keep doing the rolling updates. It's as fast now as when originally
installed and disk space is accounted for by data I've added.

Good luck

I cleaned up some files etc and ended at 55 gigs free.. Still 30-40
gigs off what is normally free. This morning I wake up and I have 14
gigs free, the computer was on all night. I have checked everything I
can think of to find the missing space. 70 gigs does not disapear in 2
nights. The only changes made to the system was a Windows update on Nov
20th, for Windows update, that is around when this started. The only
software that runs in the background is Diskeeper 2008 which has been
running since Day 1 of installation of Vista, (last June). and Windows
Home Server Connector software. Nothing else out of the norm is
running.. Any ideas on what could be eating hard drive space? Thanks in
advance..

I'm sure the irony of these 2 statements escapes you.

Default Strange Question..

Why does everything have to turn into Linux against Windows argument? I run
Vista on 1 machine, XP on another, and Linux on a third and they are all
hooked up to my Server. I like them all for different reasons.. I come on
here to post a message asking for help and I get some good suggestions, but
then it turns into a use Linux or use Windows discussion, it's amazing
anyone can get any help in these forums. What ever happened to the days when
you could go to a forum and ask for help and actually get it?

Because there are Loony Linux crybabies here who can't stand the fact that
after 2 years, Vista has 20 times the users that Linux has after 20 years of
being given away "for free".

That is why. Ignore them.

Default Strange Question..

Well here is a strange answer to my own question.. When I got down to 1 GB
free hard drive space, (Yes in 2 days I lost over 80 gigs of hard drive
space) I went to check my backups on my Windows Home Server and noticed my
wednesday night backup said 3 GB of shadow volume implementation folders.
Last nights said 81 Gigs.. I turned off System Restore, and bam got back 116
gigs of HD space.. Something must have gotten flugged (nice word) with the
restore, possibly creating a restore point non stop? Who knows.. I turned it
back on and created a manual restore point and it created a 3GB restore
point which was just about right.. So so far it is fine.. Never would have
expected that, but now that I look back, a restore point was created on
Thursday just before a windows update ran and since then I have been losing
hard drive space.. Thanks all for the help and suggestions..

FBron, that is a good question... Guess I was lazy and never turned it off.
It's going off now and not going back on, especially since I went from 118
gigs last night before bed to 93 this morning.. Jeez..
