Memory installation

I have Windows Vista Basic 32 bit Dell Inspiron 531s. My phsical memory
is depending on what applications I am currently running is around 80%.
It is recommended that I add 2GB's memory. How easy is installation and
at what cost?

This is a desktop computer, so it's very easy to install new memory. Your
Dell manual will show you how.

Memory is relatively inexpensive. Here is what you need:

http://www.crucial.com/store/listpar...nspiron%20531s

I see that the 2GB kit is only $31.99.

And here is an install guide from Crucial:

http://www.crucial.com/install/dimm.aspx

The illustrations are of an older type memory but the technique will be
identical for your machine and the pictures make it quite clear what to do.

Memory is pretty cheap nowadays. Your Dell manual will tell you what type to
buy. How much it will cost depends upon where in the world you live. Check
what type you need first from your Dell manual and then do a Google search
for the memory or try www.crucial.com. Alternatively, if you have a local PC
store then visit them and ask how much it will cost for your type of memory.
Installation too isn't that difficult so long as the memory slots are in an
accessible position.

Thanks to you both. I went to the Geek Squad at Best Buy. They
recommended PNY 2GB (2x 1GB). I installed them myself. My physical
memory is now down to about 26% roughly.

I'm glad you managed to sort things out. Installing the memory, know doubt,
turned out to be a lot easier than you first imagined?
