Cannot change channels with my Media Center Remote on a brand new HP m9300t
PC with Vista Ultimate 64-bit. HP cannot come up with an answer. The Media Center software confirms that the set top box remote codes are detected and I have good tv video and audio. The smaller box at the bottom of the screen shows the correct channels when I use the MCE remote or the keyboard but will not change to that channel. Let me explain that I am not new to Media Center PCs, set top boxes and extenders. I have 2 XP Media Center PCS that work perfectly. Here are the main differences between the XP PCs and my new Vista PC: (1) The XP Desktop has an external USB remote sensor from which the ir cable extends to the set top box; (2) The XP Laptop has an external tv tuner w/remote sensor from which the ir cable extends to the set top box. Both work with absolutely no problems. The Vista PC has an internal card from which the ir cable extends to the set top box. The remote sensor is internal and communicates perfectly with everything except changing channels. The set top box is the same set top box used with the other PCs. But, I have experimented. I moved my PC to another room to try a different, newer set top box. No go. The Vista PC will not change channels with the hardware configuration it came with. I experimented further--and here is the strange thing: I took the external, USB sensor from my XP desktop, plugged it into my new Vista computer, used the Vista PC's ir cable, left the ir bug in exactly the same place on the set top box and using the new Vista PCs remote was able to change channels. I'm really confused. Where is the problem on the new Vista PC? It does not appear it is a Microsoft software problem, it does not appear to be the PCs remote sensor's problem, it does not appear to be the remote's problem nor the ir cable. Since HP can't solve this, thought maybe there was an expert out there that has a solution. |
