VISTA FAX sending issues
I would like to finish up on this issue and will try to answer your
questions as best as I can. The only issues for me now, however, are these: 1) How can I access the cover pages. They do not come up when I select them from the drop down menu. Even one that I have created, while showing up in the drop down list, does not appear when selected from the list. 2) What's the purpose of the notepad-like area beneath the subject field. When I put text in there and try to send I get an error message. Now to your questions, as I understand them: 1) Error messages implies that the document you are trying to fax cannot be rendered. a) In what format is this document? b) Where did it originate? c) Does it contain any graphics or other data that might be difficult to render? d) What happens if you save this document to your hard drive and try to print it to.. ANSWER: I have never had a problem faxing a document. I have always been able, for example, to FAX a Word or Excel document from the print menu of the respective application (Word, Excel...) The problem that I had was in forwarding a FAX or sending a FAX that was created with F & S itself. 2) After you create a fax to send in WFS, see if you can find a corresponding TIF file in %userprofile%\appdata\local\temp... I was never able to find a tif file in the above situation. I searched the entire computer for tif and tiff as well as looking specifically in the above directory. Under these circumstances, if there are any questions that remain please inform me. VISTA FAX sending issues
No one has ever reported the behavior you're seeing. Typing in the message
window simply creates a fax that can be sent for everyone else. Cover pages are also accessible for everyone else. I'd report it to the developers if I had steps to repro. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Mitch" wrote in message ... VISTA FAX sending issues
I have been speaking with paid support at MS. All of the people with
whom I have spoken have been very sincere in trying to assist me but they really have not been impowered to assist on this issue. First, none of them have machines that are equipped to send out faxes. The fellow I spoke with today was not able to see if he himself could call up a cover sheet because he didn't have the F & S installed (That's what he said.) He wanted to examine my machine's registry. None of the MS people with whom I have spoken seem to have had any direct experience with F & S. Do you know how I can reach the MS developers? You can't. You still need to provide me with the information on file
association for TIF files. I find it ludicrous that PSS doesn't even have a machine with WFS installed. You need to escalate. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Mitch" wrote in message ... VISTA FAX sending issues
I get the "DATA IS INVALID" when i try to fax any attachment (pdf, word, gif,
jpeg)...but not when I simply fill out the cover letter. So it has to do with the attachment. Any ideas? JOHN "Mitch" wrote: Of the three situations where faxes can be sent using Vista Fax & Scan, two do not work for me. I am using VISTA Business. The situations a A/ In trying to forward a fax.. Details: 1) I open Vista Fax & Scan 2) I open a fax within the "Inbox". 3) I then select "Forward as a Fax". 4) In the "To" window I enter a phone number in the format xxx-xxx-xxxx. 5) I put some text in the message sectionessage 6) I then click on "send". I get an error message that says "The message could not be sent. The parameter is incorrect." B/ In trying to originate a Fax from within Vista Fax & Scan.. 1) I open Vista Fax & Scan 2) I click on "New Fax" 3) I fill in the subject 4) I enter the phone number in the " To" window in the format xxx-xxx-xxxx. 5) I put some text in the message section. 6) I click on "send" I get an error message that says: "The message could not be sent. The data is invalid." Note: The third way of sending a FAX is from the a document (File/print/fax). This I am able to do. For example, if I create a document in Word, and from the "Print" menu I select "fax", what appears to be the VISTA FAX & Scan send-screen opens, and I fill it in as above and send without difficulty.
