Default According to our scan, your system already has the maximum amount of memory installed

Hi, I only have 1 GB Ram for Vista so that's pretty bad. I have a Vista
Premium 32 bit Dell Inspiron 531. So I wanted to upgrade my RAM so when
I wento Crucial.com's system scanner. It said: According to our scan,
your system already has the maximum amount of memory installed. But then
I go down and it says theres 0MB installed with 4 slots left.

- *Maximum Memory Capacity:* 4096MB
- *Currently Installed Memory:* 0MB
- *Available Memory Slots:* 4
- *Number of Banks:* 4
- *Dual Channel Support:* Yes
- *CPU Manufacturer:* AuthenticAMD
- *CPU Family:* AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+ Model
11, Stepping 2
- *CPU Speed:* 2600 MHz
- Although the memory can be installed one module at a time, the best
performance comes from using matched pairs of modules.

So now I'm stuck and confused...that's why I joined this forum.

The crucial scan doesn't work on Vista - you need to do it manually.

Check your PC manual to see what type of memory you need and the maximum
amount you can install. The last time I used Crucial it told me I had 4
memory slots when there are only 2 on the motherboard. Your system
manufacturer knows exactly how many slots are on your motherboard and how
much memory you can upgrade to. I would trust them to know better than
Crucial

Obviously, the scan is wrong if you have 1Gig installed, and the PC is
working.
Remember that Dell, in a lot of cases, uses non standard hardware and BIOS.
