POST beep - slow ?
I use a Sony desktop Pentium D now 3.5 years old. I really like it as its
very very quiet. Recently, during the prep of a new hard drive that requires a lot of cold starts using the on / off switch, an issue came up. After hitting the switch the machine powers up but doesn't get to the POST beep. It may take 4 / 5 attempts before I get a beep. Other than that the machine is completely normal with no driver issues etc. My thoughts were perhaps the MB battery but beyond that I cant identify anything that might be wrong, MB driver is the original and only available. Much appreciate your thoughts.

It is unlikely to be the motherboard battery. I would check out the power supply and swap it out with a known-working one. If that solves the issue, then you know to discard the old psu. Have you checked the settings for the BIOS. The switching off/on may have caused a checksum error. This may not show as an error but the latency of your ram/fsb and cpu may have changed. It may also be searching for networked devices that have never been connected. Go through each option one by one to find the culprate. -- roy69

The bios seems fine and it has a voltage reading that is stable and normal. No new components either.
