No because you computer can not run without the OS that is on the HDD.

Hi,
Not normally. Your hard drive contains the operating system that you use to connect, as well as web browser and email software. Pretty much everything you do is contained on the hard drive. However..... What you can do though, is boot the system with a bootable OS disk like a self-contained Linux system disk.
