Hi,
I just learned from some newsletters about the leak of Vista pricing and I know that is not the "official" announcement. In any case, just wondering what will be counted as an "upgrade"? Does it mean that owning XP or even earlier version is eligible for the upgrade or other? Note: Based on the leaked news, upgrade price is not so bad. Also have another question about the overall feature of moving files/data/settings from an existing machine to the new vista machine, and the main focus is on the transferring Outlook Express newsgroup accounts, settings, threads, and so on. Has it improved or just like XP for which newsgroup subscription is not transferable without a 3rd party utility? Thanks in advance. |

Hello xfile,
The upgrade will work as long as you have XP installed on your system. Windows Vista has a new transfer program called Windows Easy Transfer and if you run that on your XP machine it will back up all of your settings and then you can restore them to a new computer or to the same PC if you do a clean install. As far as I know Newsgroup subscriptions and all e-mail transfer now. Hi,
Thanks for your kind reply and that at least ease my two primary concerns since upgrade to Vista will inevitably need to upgrade some hardware as well, such as VGA to take the full advantage of its much advertised graphic effects. And transferring/synchronizing newsgroup subscriptions including posted message between different XP machines (such as at office and home) is one of the major headaches of using XP now. Again, thanks for your kind confirmation. "Tom Ziegmann" wrote in message m... Hello xfile, The upgrade will work as long as you have XP installed on your system. I don't think the newsgroup information will migrate. That is what is being
reported at present, although I haven't tested it yet in the newest build. steve MS-MVP OE / WinMail "Tom Ziegmann" wrote in message m... I don't think the newsgroup information is going to migrate. I will be
testing this, but I think it will not work. As to sharing the messages between systems, you still will not be able to share the message store on a network, but the message files are now stored individually, so its an easy matter to transfer messages from one computer to another. steve "xfile" wrote in message ... Thanks and
![]() I really hope the new OS could focus more on handling daily tasks and making our life a bit of easier instead of skin-deep graphic things - no offense. "Steve Cochran" wrote in message ... Hello All,
In my testing in every build since 5384 all my OE information including newsgroups has transferred, the only problem that I have had is I have to just re sync with the news servers. But, other than that I have had no problems and I think Windows Easy Transfer is a lot better then the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard in XP. Hello,
Many thanks for the confirmation again. Just to be sure that I understood, you could transfer all newsgroup subscriptions and including messages posted and marked to be monitored? Thanks. Okay. Thanks for the info. Others had previously reported it didn't work,
and I haven't tried the upgrade scenario yet. steve "Tom Ziegmann" wrote in message m...
