Hi, guys. I have a Gateway P-6860fx laptop, which has an eSATA port (fortunately). I have this *ATA 100* drive (500GB) that I used in my old desktop: 'Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKB 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache IDE Ultra ATA100 Hard Drive - Internal Hard Drives' (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136111) Is that drive compatible with this eSATA unit (*SATA I/II*)? 'Newegg.com - Rosewill RX-358-S BLK (Black) 3.5\" SATA to USB & eSATA Ext. Enclosure w/Int.80mm fan - External Enclosures' (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...E16817173 042) I don't know if ATA100 and SATA I/II are practically synonymous or completely different. lol. Much appreciated! -- TBolt |

No, you cannot use a standard ATA drive with any type of SATA connector,
they are not compatible. -- Richard G. Harper [MVP Desktop] * NEW! Richard et al, Would this drive likely work with the eSATA unit, then? drive: 'Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 750GB Hard Drive - 7200, 16MB, Serial ATA-300, OEM ST3750640AS at TigerDirect.com' (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...rkey=TSD-750AS) eSATA unit: 'Newegg.com - Rosewill RX-358-S BLK (Black) 3.5" SATA to USB & eSATA Ext. Enclosure w/Int.80mm fan - External Enclosures' (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...E16817173 042) Thank you. :geek: -- TBolt |

Looks like it should work fine. SATA drive, SATA enclosure; should be okay.
No guarantees though as I have not used that combo of hardware. :-) -- Richard G. Harper [MVP Desktop] * NEW! "Richard G. Harper [MVP]" a écrit dans le message de ... Looks like it should work fine. SATA drive, SATA enclosure; should be okay. The difference with SATA is that it can be connected - disconnected without rebooting. Just as with USB. |

Internal SATA connectors are hotswappable as well, the difference with eSATA is the shielding requirements allow a longer length without suffering from interference. |

There is a small adapter that allows you to use IDE devices on a SATA connection. Here's one of them: http://www.addonics.com/products/io/ide_sata.asp Tom Lake |

In this case, I already bought a 750GB Seagate SATA drive. I'll remember the adapter should I need it in the future. -- TBolt |
