I don't know if matters have changed over the years but not that many
years ago it was practically impossible to find a replacement power
supply for a Compaq machine. Nothing available in the normal market
would fit in the box.

Yes, a case change may be required as well..


I don't think you've ever been inside a Compaq computer. Everything
used to be proprietary, including the mobo. Nothing but the hard drive
was replaceable.
