Hmm. well I have been trying to sort this out for days. I just
reformatted from XP to Vista: P5k-E (MB), which had SoundMax on it. I
don't know what I am doing so have followed forum directions to disable
these drivers. I installed a sound card (Creative X-Fi) and the computer
won't detect it. Took it to a shop and they were more useless than I am.
It's not in a PCI-E slot and the card itself is fine (I already
exchanged cards in case). I went into the BIOS to see what was going on
there and made 2 changes: I enabled plug and play PC1 and enabled
digital sound; however, I am just using a couple of regular speakers. I
have spent about 24 hours trying to figure this out but I finally bow
down to my own ignorance which I should have done 2 days ago--can anyone
help?

Cheers,
Sherrie

If I am looking at the correct motherboard, there is supposed to be an
LED to let you know the PCI card is working. Does the LED indicate such?

Your onboard sound doesn't work? Have you installed the motherboard
drivers for it, and are you using the 32 or 64 bit version of Vista?

For the sound card to work, you probably have to turn off the onboard
sound in the bios (which you may have done). Also, is there a bios
setting for the PCI slots? Have you loaded the drivers for the card?

I would think your onboard sound should work, since drivers are listed
on the Asus website. Maybe use a headset to listen instead of the speakers.
