Default Vista Home Premium 64 - terribly slow internet

Hello all...

I just bought a new Asus laptop - Centrino 2, 4GB RAM, 1GB 9600M...and
the dreaded Windows Vista 64 bit.

The computer is flawlessly fast aside from the internet. I don't think
it's browser settings, as I've used both IE and Firefox... both download
just as slowly as the other. Also, Steam downloads just as slowly as the
two browsers as well. I get 400KB/s transfers on my XP machine but only
30KB/s (AT BEST!) on this 64 platform. I installed the newest Intel WiFi
drivers (dated 11/08) with no fixing of the problem. I tried the whole
netsh autotuning commands, with no differing result. I've disabled the
bandwidth reserve, with no differing results. Firewall, Defender,
Phishing filter...it's all off.

How in the world can I get my internet back? I can't download at
10-30KB/s anymore. It's driving me insane. I might as well use
dial-up...it sure is cheaper.

Have you checked if there is a new firmware for the router and a new driver
for NIC? Or this search result may help.
Vista Slow Issues
Make sure the software is Vista compatible. To test it, disable them
temporarily . Check this post: Vista slow may cause by security software ...
