Default Can't Share Removable Drive

I have three PCs networked. All running WinXP Pro SP2. It's an all-wired
network. I have an external hard drive connected to one of the PCs
through a USB 2.0 port.

I have no trouble accessing the external drive from the PC it is directly
connected to but I am not able to access it from the other PCs on the
network.

The network is working OK. I am able to access any drive in any of the
PCs from either of the other PCs - except for the external drive.

I tried another external drive and I have the same problem with it.

I have WinXp Network Sharing & Security setup to allow the external drive
to be accessed from the other PCs. Network sharing is working for
everything except the external drive.

What could be causing this? Is there something about external drives that
makes them Non-Networkable? (I don't think so but not sure why this is
happening.)

Thanks.
Peter

What's the system error if you do net view
\\remorepcname\externalsharedname?
