Just bought a WD 500gb hdd and an antec MX-1 enclosure. It has eSATA. Put it all together and plugged it in / hooked it up to computer and turned it on. I went into control panel and disk management bla bla bla, can't find the hard drive?? The computer should recognize that it is there right? How else can I formatt it if I can't even find it? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance -- Brunswick2 |

How do you have the drive jumpered--if WD, you might need to have it set to single and not master. Clark |

An eSATA drive should be recognised in the BIOS. Can you see it in the CMOS
setup? With some SATA controllers the drive has to be powered up before the BIOS POST in order for it to be recognised. This means you have to turn the drive on before turning on the computer. It also means you can't use the drive as a removable drive. -- Kerry Brown MS-MVP - Windows Desktop Experience: Systems Administration http://www.vistahelp.ca/phpBB2/ http://vistahelpca.blogspot.com/ "Brunswick2" wrote in message ... 1: Check your BIOS to make sure you have the eSATA port enabled.
2: In device manager, go to 'Action' menu and select 'Scan for new devices' "Brunswick2" wrote in message ... Just bought a WD 500gb hdd and an antec MX-1 enclosure. It has eSATA. Not all SATA chipsets are hotswappable in all modes, the generic/default drivers that Windows installs often don't support hotswapping but once you find the correct SATA controller drivers then hotswapping works. |
