I apologize if this is posted somewhere else, I looked around for a bit but couldn't find the answer to my question. I figured it'd be best to just post it before my break is over. So anyway... I recently spent a metric but ton (technical term there =P) on a new computer. Bought an I7 processor, 6gb ddr3 ram, and 2 xfire vid cards. I spent the better part of last night installing all the parts and vista. After about 4 hours of work getting everything put together and installed I noticed it was only recognizing 4gb of the 6 of ram. I read elsewhere that 32 bit os could only do 4gb but 64 bit could do up to (potentially) 128 or sometime like that. Is that right? For some reason it's not recognizing or utilizing my last two gigabytes of ram. Anyone have any ideas on why or a fix? Here's the links on the relevant parts I ordered: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145222 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131358 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116493 Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks for your time .-- strife03 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ strife03's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/strife03.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/windows-v...ce/1099758.htm http://forums.techarena.in |

X2 on the BIOS, Asus boards have a setting called expanded memory mapping
(or close to that) which has to be enabled for more than 4GB with a 64 bit OS. -- ---- Crosspost, do not multipost http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm How to ask a question http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555375 Help Us Help You http://dts-l.net/goodpost.htm "Victek" wrote in message ... Couple of possibilities:
I'm assuming you have verified you installed the x64 version of Vista. According to your motherboard manual, pg. xii, under Memory: *Due to Intel spec definition, DIMMS of DDR3-1333 or above are supported by specific CPU models only. I7 should be fine. Bullet 2 on pg. 2-12: Due to Intel spec definition, X.M.P. DIMMS and DDR3-1600 are supported for one DIMM per channel only. Qualified Vendors List for Memory does not appear to be supporting your selection of memory: Pg. 2-14 Couldn't check with ASUS as their website appears to be down in this area, but they have a more up-to-date list and it looks like others have passed this hurdle. Memory not seated in proper slots: See pg. 2-11 of manual (Note: Must be in A1, B1 and C1 slots) Bad memory chip - run diagnostic. Try removing one stick (it should be able to run on two), swap them around with the third stick and try again. Motherboard drivers not up-to-date. (Guess there is only one version of the BIOS, so far.) Are you trying to overclock? There are a few more possibilities, but I stick with making sure it's installed correctly first.
