When going for the 32bit beta I kept getting timed out until the download manager appeared along with the download link finally seen on the Windows 7 page at 'Welcome to Windows 7' ('Welcome to Windows 7' (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/)) Once you arrive there look for the 'Download the Windows 7 Beta' ('Download the Windows 7 Beta' (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...download.aspx)) "download the Windows 7 beta" link. It certainly loads right up faster then Vista right from the start. But besides being a beta remember you still will be installing a fresh copy of Windows without anything else on. Once several programs can be loaded on that will tell how well it performs. I suspect that many rushed out for 6-8gb of memory are going to be puzzled when they have a chance to run the nextversion. my current tale of woe - heehee - last install, my IE stopped working. That was before it started locking before getting to desktop. Just installed again, going very slowly, and it gave me a message that it had to chkdsk files on C (Win7), and deleted easily 1000 directory entries. I had taken an acronis image before that, so I will restore that and have a looksee. My suspicion is that one of the add-ons to FF hosed it, but it may have been Acronis itself. ANYTHING that adds services should be immediately suspect. Remember that NONE of this stuff has been okayed for Win7. It's all a bunch of hee hee, and a lot of giggles if it even works at all. But it IS FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As to memory, I have 2gb - when I tried it with 4 it only used 3 and it ran slower (course that memory was clocked slower.....). I doubt it will need more than 2gb tops, unless you're running 64bit, and serious CADCAM stuff. As for the 64bit version there are no 64bit drivers for dsl here making that a short lived item not being able to connect online for anything(drivers, any updates for software to try out, etc.). And I just got done adding a new pair of 2gb dimms in too! -- Night Hawk |

I simply burned the dvd image to disk andbooted from that to see the installation go on. Make sure everything is going good before running Acronis again there. yes! I have taken lots of images (by booting to CD), but I have NOT installed Acronis as I think it hosed the system. The MS Update for Realtek LAN may be bad. So far, Blu-Ray (WinDVD9br) , OnAir GT HDTV, Puran defrag (done at boot it gets the directories), OpenOffice, fireFox, coretemp, SIMeter, DUMeter, Avast A/V, Lavasoft AdAware, Roboform, Agent Ransack, Irfanview, T'Bird, Registrar registry editer, HDTach, TreeSize, Logitech SetPoint and Uberoptions for MX620 mouse, etc... all work just fine. I tried IE7Pro but it didn't save the tabs so I took it back off. I used a modified form of Langa to remove a bunch of temp stuff. Gibson Reasearch Shields up shows stealth. Speakeasy shows the line is good... etc Gadgets does nothing other than buzz the HD a bit. nothing's there... Yahoo Widgets won't install because it's not a recognized flavor of opsys. Oh, be careful of Heidi Eraser - that may have been a cause of some problems for me on a previous build. Like the hosed MFT So far, on this build, very solid, very fast. No bsod or anything. I Like. I miss having Acronis on the system, so I'll try that again in a day or 2 just after I've taken an image, to be safe. Some other tools like CPUID, PC Wizard 2008, IE new window maximizer, ImgBurn, StarBurn, Nero 8 Express, and some others will be tossed into the mix. As far as gadgets none were seen when trying to select. Regarding the memory the pair was simply to upgrade from 2gb upto 4gb which hasn't been a problem with the 32bit build and still reports a little over 3.5gb total with about 33% in use. -- Night Hawk |

I simply burned the dvd image to diskand booted from that to see the installation go on. The first link has devices for both hard drives and optical media as well. 'Verity Systems Hard Drive Degaussers / Erasers' (http://www.veritysystems.com/degauss...b_category=HDD) For a retail software the WipeDrive software fits the role pretty well.
