I need to see the progress of disk defrag like in xp where can I check
the progress? You don't really "need" to. It's a design decision to remove the graphical display, because for one thing it is meaningless, and for another, there aren't enough pixels on your screen to correctly display the disk sectors and files. So any display would be a "fudge" to look pretty, rather than a meaningful indication of fragmentation. Vista is designed to defrag invisibly, and it works perfectly well. It is kicked off automatically once per week, and runs only when your computer is idle (at the lowest processor and I/O priorities) so it can't impact on your usage of the PC. And it works fine. Honestly, you really can just forget about fragmentation. If you don't believe me, just use your computer normally for a few weeks. Then run 'defrag c: /a' and see if there is any significant fragmentation. I bet there won't be. SteveT |

Ya well...what if you're not trying to entertain yourself but would like to see if ANOTHER microsoft product that does the defrag is lying to me. It's always saying it cannot defrag and I opted to run it every day for the past month to see if it ever does. I'd really like to SEE if it's crazy or if it's really not defraging. |
