Vista Ultimate SP1
How to config VPN connection so that internet requests are made through local internet connection , rather than through \VPN internet connection ? It seems that by default all of my internet requests are being forwarded to the VPN machine ...

Yes, this is default settings. You may want to uncheck Use Gateway on remote
