Hi there This is an urgent problem. My sister's laptop was freezing on the 'Welcome' screen on vista... and when troubleshooting, at times it wouldnt even get into Safe Mode. I eventually got all the files off, and the error details and the minidump. It was most important that the laptop is fixed (even if temporarily) for Sunday (tomorrow) - so I just restored the computer to it's original factory state, and am now researching the problem. That was in hope that it was a software problem, and not a hardware problem. The laptop is now working, but everything locks up after it's been on for a few minutes, or I try to do 2 things... Here are the original error details, and minidump attached: Problem Event Name: BlueScreen OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.768.3 Locale ID: 2057 Additional Information about the problem: BCCODE: 8086 BCP1: 00000000 BCP2: 00000000 BCP3: 00000000 BCP4: 00000000 OS Version: 6_0_6000 Service Pack: 0_0 Product: 768_1 Thank you all ! Hi Mike,
Faulty hardware, probably caused by overheating. Fixing it will likely require employing a technician or contacting the manufacturer for warranty work. There's not much the average user can do to fix laptops beyond swapping out memory, but from the error code I'd say the processor is fried. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org My thoughts http://rick-mvp.blogspot.com "mglinx" wrote in message ... Either she must have used some very old buggy drivers or the thing is half-dead. Dumps points to Logitech camara (during some audio process audiodg.exe), to Intel graphics driver, to Intel Storage controller. Think 1 "generic" csrss something. Looks like major driver updating will fix all problems or it wont get fixed. Include SP1 in your updating btw. Go to site of manufacturer, they usually have a page with relevant downloads for model. Might even have a look at the bios section, strange bugs fixed in newer version? Mind you Im no expert in reading dump files. Wait for someone else to reply before doing something drastic. Updating almost never hurts though. -- dk70 |

Thanks for your quick response. I posted on another forum and they told me iastor.sys came up in the minidump also. I've googled 'iastor.sys' and it all comes flowing in. Though there is so many different causes, I don't know where to start. Some of the many results included causes/solutions such as - Updating drivers - Checking BIOS/Motherboard is all up-to-date - Replacing iastor.sys (because it might be corrupt) - Failing HDD - Something to do with RAID You mentioned logitech.. I will look into the drivers for that. I then updated the other forum saying: Update: I've now been running the laptop (on AC power!) and doing normal activity on it for over an hour. I managed to get all Windows Updates done and I am still using it plugged in. I mention this because many of my google searching mentioned people talking about their similar problems being related to when it's plugged in on AC power. Now i'm going to see what I can research and do and update with the drivers, then I will unplug and do some tests and see how it runs... -- mglinx |

Yeah trial and error is a well known path No reason to flash bios just because you can but do check if there are some public changelog so to evaluate if it is worth the trouble. Possible Windows update most "system" drivers like those from Intel but source no. 1 should be manufacturer. Later Windows can update. Well lots of updating, not to mention SP1, so perhaps a miracle is on its way. Lets hope it keeps running when unplugged. Could be some power thingy if not - called "broken" ![]() -- dk70 |
