Strange behaviour, Vista 64-XP 32 network using Netgear Router. At Vista start up when XP is already running I am unable to see the XP computer from the Vista computer, even though the XP is seen on the Vista Network Map. When XP is started after Vista computer is up then all is normal and correct. At all times the XP computer can see and access the Vista computer, the problem appears only when Vista is booted after the XP bootup. -- Coolsiggy |

This layer-link patch is already installed on my XP computer...I can see the XP from the Vista Network Map, no problem. This is strictly the fact that if I boot Vista machine first all is fine, but if the Xp boots first then I am unable to see or share from the Vista even though XP is seen on the Vista Netwook Map. Does your XP PC have Service Pack 3 installed? If so, you need to reinstall
that Link Layer .....! Reason: SP 3 does not include the Link Layer even so it may appear in the properties of your XP network. Check your Event Viewer for errors. There is a certain type of error that appears each time when the XP machine boots. Take that error and google it and you will find the solution which is reinstalling the Link Layer or go to this website: http://x3webworx3.spaces.live.com/bl...75AE!234.entry I used the suggested solution and it worked. To explain: I have a laptop with Vista and a desktop with XP SP 3. The network was working but the network map showed the Vista machine as not connected to the network. After I applied the suggested fix; Vista showed the laptop as connected again. I hope this helps. MKR "Coolsiggy" wrote in message ... Ok,...after trying many fixes I've finally found the problem. I had two connections running on my XP machine (1-ethernet,1-wireless), why?...any how after shutting down one Vista no longer has a problem seeing my Xp machine regardless of bootup sequence. Another case of self inflicted chaos. -- Coolsiggy |

How did find this out and how did you remove one of them? And did this then
allow your Vista to see the XP Christopher Fazio VMD "Coolsiggy" wrote in message ... Ok,...after trying many fixes I've finally found the problem. Hi Chris My fault..as described earlier was caused when I enable both a Ethernet and a wireless connection. This is done via the network connections window in XP. I run a wireless router and normally I use the Ethernet - cable connection, however as my XP computer also had a on board 100mps wireless connection I thought that speed may inprove using both (wrong). I think this setup confused the Vista computer, in any case I disabled the wireless connection by left click on the WiFi icon and ticked the disable option. Both my Vista and XP computers are up to date and loaded with all the network upgrades I could find, once I disabled either the WiFi or ethernet connection Vista had no problem seeing the XP computer. -- Coolsiggy |

Thanks for the reply. In my situation, my Vista machine can see XP files
but they are old files which were deleted off the XP machine. It is very strange. I can access files on the Vista machine from the XP but not vice a versa. Which is really the opposite of what I would like. -- Christopher Fazio VMD "Coolsiggy" wrote in message ...
