Default Start-up problem

My monitor will only come on if I press the monitor on switch
immediately after the first beep in the computer start-up sequence.
Have updated all drivers.
Am running vista premium and have a viewsonic vx922 monitor.
Any suggestions?
Thanks for any help you can offer.
wwp

Since sending the above post someone in this ng suggested I might need
a new video card. I bought a BFG e-GeForce 9500 GT and tried it.
Nothing changed so I reinstalled the old card (Evga e-GeForce 8600 GT
with half a gig of ram).
I'm thinking maybe to reinstall Vista.
Should I just pop the disk in and tell it to install or does somebody
have other suggestions?
Thanks again

Default Start-up problem

Hello Wwhp,

I know you said that you have all drivers installed and updated, but
the monitor driver is often overlooked or mistaken with the graphics
card drivers. Have you installed these as well?

'Viewsonic » Drivers'

Do you let the computer shutdown the monitor and not turn it off
manually?

You might also check in the monitor's on-screen menu options to see if
there is one that affects it's sleep mode.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Default Display Start-up problem (subject title changed)

Hi Shawn
Yes, I have installed latest monitor driver.
I turn off the monitor manually and I can't see anything in the
controls about sleep mode.
It's at the point now that to get the display to come on I have to
turn the computer off at the power supply, leave it for a minute or
two then restart and then turn on the display right after I hear the
first beep. Sometimes I have to do this several times. After it starts
it works fine until I try to restart.
Do you think reinstalling vista would help?
Thank you
wwp

You appear to have a hardware problem, not a Vista problem.

Try re-connecting the cable at the back of the monitor. Sometimes they
do not seat properly and a good connection is not made. If that does not
work, try replacing the cable with another known good one as the present
one may be faulty.
