I get the option to "Speed up my system using Readyboost" when i put a (4g) SD card into my computer, but then when i click it, there is no readyboost tab. It is my understanding that I have to enable this in the systems.sfc, buuuut.... I have tried cmd prompting sfc/scannow, and it tells me "You must be an administrator running a console session in order to use the sfc utility." Note: I am not trying to remote connect. I am trying to enable this locally on this laptop on this administrator account. Operating system: Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit Please help! -- D4v15 |

Open up the command prompt as administrator: right-click its icon in All Programs Accessories, and select "Run as Administrator". Charlie42 |

First, it's called "Readyboost", and second, it works on a variety of flash devices and isn't restricted to the USB interface. My laptop's card reader is mounted on the PCIe bus and is Readyboost capable, for example. |

Personally i would`nt bother with readyboost.
I found it actually slows down the Pc with its constant data thrashing out the hard disk and usb pen drive. Now i have disabled it together with indexing and modifying the Superprefetch in the Registry the Pc is so much more responsive and less noisy.!!! Ok it might take an extra second to load up an App but at least its not causing bottlenecks when running games or doing other intensive tasks, plus i just dont like all that disk activity going on, it does my head in.!!!!!!! All these Microsoft wonder ideas to speed up the Pc actually cause it to slow down (at least in my case) and burn out the hard disk in the process.!!!! Anyone else agree. ????? Regards, Graham.... I've never found ReadyBoost to slow down the computer, but I also recommend against it. If you have 2GB or more of RAM, the little it might do for you is so slight as to be almost unnoticeable. And if you have less than 2GB of RAM, you would do much better to spend your money on upgrading your RAM to 2GB than on buying a device for ReadyBoost use. So, in general, I also recommend *against* using ReadyBoost. "D4v15" wrote in message ... Vista will not utilize ReadyBoost if the read/write specs of the device are
not equal to or exceed those of the HD - performance increase depends primarily on type of HD action - sequential read/writes are directed to the ReadyBoost device and sequential to the HD. ReadyBoost also performs another little mentioned function in concert with the OS and defragmentation. ReadyBoost assists Vista in monitoring and recording usage over a period of time - during defragmentation the information is used to relocate files to increase boot time. |

Doesn't Vista do that without ReadyBoost? |
