Default Remote Desktop Disconnected

Hi
I am trying remote desktop access between an XP Pro laptop and an XP Pro
desktop PC.
After between 30 minutes and half an hour the desktop disconnects, and I am
unable to reconnect unless and until the desktop is rebooted, which by
definition is not practicable.
Our IT support technician has this morning discovered that the problem seems
to be common to PC's on which the Remote Desktop version has upgraded from v5
to v6.
At present there appears to be no solution.

For information, I would point out that the laptop is running SP3, but our
desktops have a range from SP 1 to SP 3, so the SP factor seems not to be
relevant.
