Default access denied when creating a local port

I have 2 vista PCs with printers attached to each. I can create a local port
on PC 1 and connect to the printer on PC2. When I try to create a local port
on PC 2 to access the printer on PC1, I get an "access is denied" error. PC 1
is a brand new HP with Vista Home premium , SP1 and all the critical updates.
I unistalled the trial version of Norton Internet Security and ran the Norton
removal tool. I set up matching accounts on both PCs, both in the
Administrators group and I disabled the Windows firewall. Could this be
related to some crapware on the new computer? Please help.... Anyone....

I am having the same problem trying to add a laser printer that Konika
will not supply a 64 bit driver to run. I found a work around that uses
a 64 bit driver for a siimilar Konika printer that works if you add a
local port instead of adding a network printer the normal way. I tried
to add a local port with the printer address \\Office\Laser. I have
turned off firewalls, used identical user accounts with admin
priviledges and even turned off UAC on both machines. Nothing works. I
am really frustrated.

The machine with the printer PC1 is a desktop running Vista 32. PC2 is
a Dell laptop running Vista 64.

Default access denied when creating a local port

I have the same thing happening on my computers.

PC1 - Vista Home 64 bit (desktop)- printer connected directly to
computer via USB
PC2 - Vista Home 64 bit (laptop) - wireless router
PC3 - XP (desktop) - wireless router

All computers up to date on all Windows updates, etc.

Although my XP (PC3) discovered and connected flawlessly to the
Vista/printer on PC1, the Vista computer (PC2) will not. I am very
familiar with the routine of setting up a "new port" and using
\\"computername"\"printername" and have done this in the past to make a
different configuration work. However, everytime that enter the
"computername" and "printername" and hit enter, I get "ACCESS IS
DENIED". I tried using the installation of a "network" printer, but got
the "install driver" warning which I hit and it just froze up. I have
turned off all Norton Firewalls and antivirus stuff on both computers,
but still nothing.

PC2 locates the printer through the network directories, etc, and can
identify the printer and it's location (Network Map), but it refuses to
allow me to connect to it and use it for printing.

I cannot believe that this should be an automatic activity between
Vista to Vista computers, but it's such a time consuming and waste of
resources. Even the XP connected like a champ without problems.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I can report some progress on this issue. I added a new account with a
password on the Vista 32 machine (the one with the printer). I added an
account with an identical name and password on the Vista 64 machine. I
could now add the local port with the printer network name. I added a
new printer using the Vista 64 driver for the Konica 1400W printer as
described in the work around. I could now print. However, I can only
print on the Vista 64 machine from the account that matches the one on
the Vista 32 machine and no other account on that machine. I had an
existing account called Admin with no password on both machines but that
one does not work. Only the new "printer" account seems to work.
