When I try to copy a large file from my Vista machine to a Windows 2003
machine, it goes VERY slowly. There are bursts when I get 450mbit/second
transfer, but mostly it's closer to 10mbit/second.

I've search online and tried many of the fixes with no change. Checked
network cabling, etc.

Vista Home Premium 64 bit with SP1. All Microsoft updates done up to
yesterday. 3Ghz dual core Intel system with 4gig memory and dual gigabit LAN
ports on the mainboard. Using the Marvell Yukon 88E001 gig port. Marvell
Yukon 88E8056 gig port is disabled.

Windows 2003 Server Standard, SP2. All Microsoft updates done up to
yesterday. Opteron 165 CPU with 3gig memory and dual gigabit LAN ports on
the mainboard. Using the nVidia gig port. Marvell Yukon 88E8001 gig port is
disabled.

(I just noticed the gig port chipsets. I am going to try to run the two
88E8001 ports together to see if that improves anything)

These are connected together through a Dlink DSG-1008 8 port gigabit switch.

Both machines are set to use 9000 byte jumbo packets, and this is supported
by the switch.

I've tried performing the copies through Explorer, Command prompt, and
several third party file managers. Antivirus has been disabled on both
machines. No firewalls on these ports. Both ports set to Autonegotiate and
do negotiate full duplex 1000mb/sec.

Can anyone tell me what might be going on here? Anything I should be looking
for?

Thanks, but I've already done that. Didn't make any difference.

I've now got both machines running hardcoded at 1000mb, on the88E8001
controllers. Settings are identical on both. Still seeing the spotty
throughput.

I've just tried to use FTP to copy my files from Vista to the Win2K3 and it
is still spotty.

Looks like a network issue and NOT an OS issue... at least at this point.

Any suggestions are appreciated!
