64 home premium and WD10eacs 1 tb esata drive difficulties - HELP PLEASE
I bought the western digital wd10eacs 1 tb drive and the proper esata enclosure. Vista finds it as a USB - but only can see it in device manager - I cannot see it in my computer to format it. BUT the properties in DM say it is working properly. When I Plug it in using the eSata I get the same thing. I can see it using device manager but I cannot access it - or see it from my computer so I can format it. can anyone help? -- BBTrekkie |

Windows explorer will only show valid disk partitions. Use Disk
Management to partition the drive. On Tue, 17 Feb 2009 20:35:38 -0600, BBTrekkie wrote: I bought the western digital wd10eacs 1 tb drive and the proper esata enclosure. 64 home premium and WD10eacs 1 tb esata drive difficulties - HELP PLEASE
Hi, BBTrekkie.
Ever since it first appeared in Windows 2000, Disk Management has been THE tool to use to manage hard disks (and anything else that can get a "drive" letter, like optical drives, USB flash drives, etc.), including creating and formatting partitions. Microsoft buried Disk Management so deeply under multiple mouse-clicks that many users (even many Windows veterans) have not found it yet, 9 years later. :( The quickest way to Disk Management in Vista is just to press the Start key, type diskmgmt.msc, and press Enter. 64 home premium and WD10eacs 1 tb esata drive difficulties - HELP PLEASE
I know this is an old thread, but thought someone searching for help with this problem might find this answer helpful. Try finding it in: Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Storage - Disk Management. If you can see it in there you can format and partition it, assign a drive letter, then you should see it in 'My Computer'. Hope this helps, Good Luck -- Dave76 |
