I have recently changed from a laptop to a desktop PC, and in doing so have
now got Vista on the new machine. We also have another desktop running XP. We use a Netgear DG834GT router to provide a wireless service to both PC's. The old (XP) machine has a Netgear WPN311 PCI adapter and works fine. With the new machine I use a Netgear WGT111T USB adapter which worked perfectly with the laptop. On the new PC the performance is far more patchy with, on start-up, the wireless service being found only about 50% of the time. Windows reports there is no network service in the area although the laptop, when used directly alongside the desktop will always find the service. If I remove the USB adapter and immediately reconnect it (at same USB socket) the wireless service is always found. When connected the wireless service then remains stable for the remainder of the work session (up to 12 hours). I do not understand the intermittent start-up problems, and certainly do not wish to continually have to remove and refix the USB adapter as this could lead to bad connections longer terms. Any ideas? -- Keith H |
