Hi all, I am reading up on debugging minidump files, because I have been getting some blue screens and would like to diagnose them. I have downloaded Windbg, but most of the articles about how to use it seem to have been written in the WinXP days. The articles reference using C:\WINDOWS\I386 as the image path. This folder does not exist on the Vista DVD; what path should I use? Is there anything that needs to be copied from the DVD? Also, I downloaded the "Windows Vista SP1 RTM and Windows Server 2008 RTM x64 retail symbols, all languages" symbol package from the Microsoft web site. The installer put the symbol files in C:\WINDOWS\SYMBOLS and this is what I specified as the path in Windbg. However, when I open up my dump file, Windbg reports that "Your debugger is not using the correct symbols." Finally, despite being an Administrative user on the computer, I don't have access to the files in C:\WINDOWS\Minidump, and UAC is preventing me from changing the security on them (unless I do it one at a time). Is there a way around this? Thanks in advance for any help. - Steve -- RSKadish |
