Hi...
I have 6 XP PCs and just setting up a Vista PC... with a small LAN. On the Vista... I shared DESKTOP and DOCUMENTS (only)... gave EVERYONE permissions, etc... no problem on that. However... what's confusing/annoying is... opening My Network Places shows PUBLIC and USERS on the Vista PC... and NOT DESKTOP and DOCUMENTS. 1. Why is USERS shown? I didn't share this higher folder? 2. Why am I forced to drill further down... when I shared the SUB-folder to start with? Definitely a time-waster but seems like a security issue also!! Thanks in advance Steve |

Hi
Desktop and Document appear under Users Admin, Default, All Users, Public, etc. Check carefully which one you shared. Jack (MS, MVP-Networking) "Steve" wrote in message ... Hi... Hi Jack...
I just UN-shared "DESKTOP" (under USERS) and shared "DESKTOP" (under DEFAULT)... now DESKTOP shows up... but not the one I want. My "user" is named OWNER... what I started out with was... opening Computer, C:, Users and Owner... under Owner, I shared Desktop and Documents. As I first said... on my XP PC... My Network Places shows Vista-PC (and the other XP PCs)... I open Vista-PC and I see Public and Users (not Desktop and Documents)... click Users and I see Owner and Public... click Owner and I see Desktop and Documents. I want this to look like my XP PCs... where I see "Desktop on Vista-PC" and "Documents on Vista-PC"... it's a waste of time to have to click 2-3 more times to get where I want... and it should be a security issue to even SEE "Public" and "Users". Thanks for your response tho! Steve "Jack (MVP-Networking)." wrote in message ...
