Default Vista Startup Repair cannot restart this computer automatically.

Okay, today my computer's (Acer desktop) screen became distorted and it
froze up, so I rebooted. Same thing happened again, I rebooted, and it
happened yet again. This time, I got two options: Start this computer
Normally, or Enter Vista Startup Repair (Recommended). I went into the
startup Repair and did a system restore. Now, when I boot up the same
thing happens again, I go to the System Repair menu, I wait for it to
finish, and I get "Vista Startup Repair cannot restart this computer
automatically" send this error report to windows (recommended), or
restart.

I look in some other threads and found that perhaps when the bootup
screen appears to hit Alt-F12, I tried that, now when i start up, there
seems to be a loading bar for about 3 seconds, then it goes to the
Windows XP loading bar, then the screen goes black. I get that result
now whenever I turn my computer on.

Thanks in advance for reading.

It sounds like you have hardware failure. If you haven't backed up your
data, retrieve it now.

a. Boot with a Linux Live CD like Knoppix or Ubuntu and copy the data to an
external hard drive. This will have the added benefit of telling you
whether the problem is Windows or hardware. If the computer runs perfectly
under Linux, you know that Windows is corrupted. If the computer exhibits
the same behavior under Linux, you know that hardware is at fault.

b. If the computer will not run properly under Linux, pull the hard drive
and either put it in an external drive enclosure or use a laptop drive
adapter to attach it to a working computer. Copy your data to the working
PC.

c. After the data is retrieved (if necessary) and if the computer runs
perfectly under Linux, restore your computer to factory condition using
whatever method was provided by Acer.

d. After the data is retrieved (if necessary) and if the computer doesn't
run under Linux (showing that the issue is hardware failure), contact Acer
tech support for repair/replacement.
