Thanks Peter, however it didn't work. I received your e-mail but when I
changed the port to that #, I ended up with this message:

THE CONNECTION TO THE SERVER HAS FAILED. ACCOUNT: 'MAIL.LILKIDS.COM',
SERVER: 'MAIL.LILKIDS.COM', PROTOCOL: SMTP, PORT: 587, SECURE(SSL): NO,
SOCKET ERROR: 10060, ERROR NUMBER: 0X800CCC0E

I wonder if A1webserver is having a problem. That's my host for the
website, but the website is up as normal. However the guys there have
not responded to my e-mails from this morning asking for help. I know
there's nothing wrong with my CPU.
Is it my Outlook Express that is messed up, or the server? Very
frustrating past 20 hours.

I did not send you an email. I posted in the newsgroup. Now wile leaving port 587 in
place disable your Antivirus email scanning by uninstalling your AV and then
re-installing it without the email integration (scanning)

I also am now dealing with this irritating problem. I experienced this
one time before, about a year ago, and my webhosting guys suggested I
switch the port from 25 to 26, or 26 to 25, can't remember, and that
immediately worked.

Now it is not working. Are there other magical port #'s I can try,
because I have done a few, to no avail this time. I have tons of replies
that are stuck.

This is my exact error message it gives, since last night, and it
continues to receive e-mails no problem somehow, just can't send.

An unknown error has occurred. Subject ' Appt Reminder....',
Account: 'mail.lilkids.com', Server: 'mail.lilkids.com', Protocol: SMTP,
Port: 26, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0B

You can only use the specific ports that your web host supports.
Ask them.
Is the error message the same or different when you use port 25?
If different, please post it here.
Another option is to substitute the SMTP server belonging to
your ISP (assuming you are sending from home).

"Unknown error" can be caused by interference from an
antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus should be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

Email scanning in any antivirus should be disabled, for reasons
explained he
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tuto...ning/index.htm

If no improvement after disabling email scanning, consider upgrading
to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to suffering bad effects
from overly intrusive antivirus programs:

See my response to "steve0071".

If you would like some custom help, post your complete error message.

Then you will have to substitute the SMTP server belonging to your
home ISP (assuming you are sending from home). If you need
help with that, tell me who your home ISP is.

Please note that the custom here is to quote the post you are
replying to, so we have some continuity.

Hi

I am having similar issues to those in this thread with Windows mail in
Vista, I'm pretty sure I've entered all the correct POP3 server and SMTP
server names correctly and even changed the port number from 25 to 587
but I still can't sent an email. Anybody have any ideas?

Do you get an error message when you try to send? If so, right-click
on your error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here. We
can't do much troubleshooting without the complete error message.
The error number by itself is not very helpful.

This is the error message I got when trying to send an email:

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'hi', Account:

Port: 587, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number:

And I got this second bit when even opening up Windows Mail:

connect to the mail server!', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error:

Your receive problem is due to allowing AVG antivirus to mess
with your email program. Email scanning in any antivirus
should be disabled, for reasons explained he
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tuto...ning/index.htm

Your AVG antivirus was probably installed with its default
install option, which installs an email scanning module.
Just disabling its email scanning is not a sufficient remedy.
Uninstall AVG, then reinstall, but select 'custom' install, which
then allows you to unselect installing its troublesome email
scanning module. Even better, replace it with the free Microsoft
security program:
http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials

That should clear your receive error. If you still get a send error,
please respond back. If the send error message is different,
post it with your reply.
