Presario CQ60 Notebook w/Vista Home Premium SP1. Is there a way to
permanently stop these unrequested disconnects occurring?

Probably, but you haven't given us much to go on. Is this something new or
did it always happen? If this is new, what changed between the time things
worked and the time they didn't?

You may need to update your modem drivers - get them from HP/Compaq's
website for your specific model computer.

Or you may have faulty telephone wiring. If you don't have a strong enough
signal, you'll definitely get constant disconnects. Check with your
Internet Service Provider and/or your telephone company.

Or for all I know you've got an extremely long phone cable sitting under
stuff, or are using a splitter.

Lots of reasons for poor dialup connectivity but no way for anyone reading
your post to know what the right answer is.
