7600GS 512MB vs 7600GT 256MB video card
Hi! I'm trying to select a video card for my DIY built-for-Vista PC. I'm not
a gamer, I just want Aero GUI to run nice and smooth and my DVDs to look good. Would you recommend a card with higher clock speed or more video RAM? Like, 7600GS 512MB or 7600GT 256MB? The system is C2D E6600, Asus P5B-E, 2x1GB 533MHz Corsair. Thanks! |

I suggest you check with other users on

7600GS 512MB vs 7600GT 256MB video card
I have a nVidia 7600 GS with 256 MB RAM and it runs Aero just fine.

Thanks for both your responses. I'll go check out the NVidia forum.

7600GS 512MB vs 7600GT 256MB video card
128MB of RAM is fine even for HDTV tuners processin 1080i programs. So
128MB 7600GS is fine for SD TV or for DVDs, however if you plan on adding a HDTV tuner you will need the higher memory bandwidth available with a 7600GT. The much higher on board memory values are good for gamers but do little if anything but chew up power for video. Both would be fine, but the 7600GT is the better card out of the two. There is a signicant difference in 'muscle' between the two. And the 7600GS does have enough to really make use of it's extra RAM. Besides, Vista doesnt even require the 256Mb that the GT has... http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards....=385&card2=387 CJM |

Or better yet, go to Tom's Hardware website
(http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics.html) and find objective benchmarking on zillions of graphic cards. Very nice place for taking sound decisions.
