Hi; I installed Vista Ultimate x64 to a second partition of my hard drive and now I have two OS, one xp in drive c and one vista in drive f and I can use both fine After installing the Vista Ultimate x64 and everything was working fine I rebooted in XPwhere i got a message saying: "network cable unplugged" but everything was well conected and internet was working well in vista I tried the following: -system restore (nothing changed) -i went into device manager, my network adapter was working fine, i re-installed my network drivers.. nothing changed either Here is some info on my setup.. I installed vista with a clean install, on a separate hardrive from where XP was.. And I have a lan at home, so my comp is plugged in my wired router.. My router is Linksys 4 port ethernet switch + adsl modem with wifi I googled my problem but I only found a few ppl with the same issue as me after they had installed vista, but they did not have much replies.. Any suggestions on what I could try ? Thanks -- emporto |

hi, there can be many resons for this problem to come. 1. check the computers IRQ setting check whether its confilicting with any other device if so change. You can the IRQ settings in the system bios. 2. on you network card on windows xp go network connections, right click local area connections, click properties, seletect the network adpoter configure. in the advace tab make sure that the network adpotoer is either set to auto or full duplex 100mbps. its best to keep it as auto. hope this helps you cheers emporto;982683 Wrote: Hi; I installed Vista Ultimate x64 to a second partition of my hard drive and now I have two OS, one xp in drive c and one vista in drive f and I can use both fine After installing the Vista Ultimate x64 and everything was working fine I rebooted in XPwhere i got a message saying: "network cable unplugged" but everything was well conected and internet was working well in vista I tried the following: -system restore (nothing changed) -i went into device manager, my network adapter was working fine, i re-installed my network drivers.. nothing changed either Here is some info on my setup.. Hi Friends; Thanks for your suggestions and answers. I tried everything but did not solve the problem, after few days googling I found a post about this problem and aaplied it, it solved the issue and I want to share this with you to help people who have same problem After booting to vista when you want to boot to xp, shut down the pc from vista, take out the power cord of pc wait 1-3 minutes and plug it again and turn on the computer and go to xp here it solved your network card will take the ip and you will get connection. Its too weird but it works, somehow vista uses another way to get ip over DHCP and after you shutdown your pc your network card and router still will be in touch. After you take off the power cord, all capacitors will discharge and your network card releases its connection with router, then you plug the power cord and open the xp, it will obtain a new connection from router, otherwise it will say network cable unplugged. Hope this will be helpfull to some other people who have the same problem. Thanks for everybody who want to help me Regards -- emporto |
