Default Vista x64 and Word 2007 Performance

I'm running a Dell XPS-420 with a Quad Core 2.5GHz processor and 4Gb of RAM.
I've recently done a clean install of the entire system, including Vista x64
Ultimate and Office 2007. When running Word, everything gets very slow, but
as soon as Word is closed the system is back to its' very responsive norm.
Any suggestions? I have plenty of memory and disk space available...
