Default Wireless Printing & Public vs Private vs Local Troubles? Plus Who Knows What Else?

Found old posts last year that addressed my interest here but could
not download the bodies because they were too old...? Sorry.

**I'm trying to understand my own wireless situation--whether at home
with my own wireless router and control I should be 'public' or
'private'?

I'm using one laptop Vista Ultimate 64-bit machine wirelessly to my
router which is hooked up Ethernet to a cable modem. I also use
Ethernet from this same router to an Xbox 360 and PS3. And of course
I have an HP printer wireless to the router too.

I use Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 with Windows Defender and
Windows Firewall turned off.

The computer automatically logs on to my secure network but initially
it searches for that network and it looks like the default search is
for a '(Public network)'. After sometimes a minute or so it "locks"
into my '(Private network)' where under Network and Sharing Center I
have Network Discovery set to Custom and File and Printer sharing set
to On and all the others Off.

**Is it 'normal' to take a minute of so for the network to find itself
or might something be in conflict?

Kaspersky's network options are Public, Local, or Trusted. And it
lists two networks... My 'Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 5300' is a
Trusted Network.

Kaspersky, instead of 'Private' offers Trusted or Local and I don't
know which one to use so I am using Trusted?

The other network listed is 'Internet' and it is a Public Network.
Both network states are Connected.

Back under Network Sharing if I go to Customize and then go to Merge
or Delete Network Locations only my network is listed.

Every so often I lose my network and it starts searching and finds my
network again. Signal strength is excellent. Is this normal to
happen and just something to live with? Or should I be staying rock
solid connected all the time?

Also of note under Network Sharing... If I go to 'View full map' it
shows a dashed line between my computer and the wireless router and a
solid line from the router to the Internet only. It does not map the
printer. I think that when it at least lists the printer as a
wireless device it will print but when the printer isn't even listed
then, although the print job will be listed in the queue there is no
Status listed and the job does not print.

**Restarting the computer and/or the printer has sometimes fixed this
printing issue but this is perhaps the real problem that needs to be
resolved here I hope?

Thank you for the help.
