Whenever I start my home desktop (Vista SP1) there is 99% chance that it will
fail to detect the network, both wirelessly and over wired convention.

To get the desktop to detect the Internet, I n3eed to do the following:

1. Turn off router
2. Turn off ISP's ADSL device
3. Shutdown the PC
4. Turn off main power

Pause 5 moinutes then do the following:
1. Turn on main power, wait couple of minutes
2. Turn on ISP's ADSL device, wait couple of minutes
3. Turn on wireless router, wait couple of minutes
4. Boot the desktop and add new network.

There is no guarantee that this will work the first time round, at times I
have follow the process 3-4 times. And then too, only the wireless connection
is available, the wired connection isn't detected.

Needless to say this is quite annoying especially when my other two laptops
(runni8ng Vista) are able to connect to the Internet almost instantly.

Any thoughts?

What the IPconfig is showing after you switch On the computer and before you
starting the Off/On process?
While it might be that there is some problem between the computer and the
Router it is hard to understand what the Modem has to do with this.

Yeah the modem causing this is highly unlikely, I just mentioned the entire
process. I did a ipconfig with only the wireless connection enable. Here are
the results:

I.e. Your computer's Network card might be the problem, or it is Ok but it
does not get a valid IP from the Router.
First check the setting of the Network on the computer, look at the Device
Manger and make sure that you have valid installation of the Network card.
This page describe the process of checking the Network system for Win XP, it
is similar for Vista only that the locations of the menus is in different
places, Follow the principle but adjust it for Vista's menu system.

In addition, your Router is rather old and it's DHCP might not be fully
compatible with Vista.
