Default Suggestion for small office NAS

I have a customer that has requested a recommendation for network attached
storage for their small office (four computers). I've tried Google but have
come up with so many conflicting reviews that it's frustrating. Some say a
box is fast, other say the same one is a dog. I'm hoping for some help.

They tried a Western Digital My Book World Edition 1TB NAS. It worked fine
until they upgraded their PCs to Vista 64-bit. Then the NAS started hanging
every 2-3 hours. It had to be powered down and restarted to get it back on
the network. WD tech support was real helpful (not) with a response of
"We've never tested it on any 64-bit OS."

They're looking for ...
- 1 to 2 TB usable space
- At least RAID 0, with RAID 5 an optional desire
- Works with Vista 64-bit, Vista 32-bit, and XP Pro
- Price under $700 if at all possible
- They would consider building a server running Linux or Windows Home server
(they have a copy)

Anyway, any suggestions for a NAS box.
