Default IDE drive not recognized.

I unplugged all IDE devices except the 40GB HDD, just to see if BIOS at
least would pick it up. It did not show in BIOS still and did not spin.

On top of all this, i also have a Western Digital 750GB HDD SATA II
that will not show up in OS, or BIOS if i use an SATA cable. I can only
get the 750gb HDD to show up in BIOS and OS if i use my eSATA enclosure.
:sarc::cry:

Sounds like its time for a new motherboard?

In the case of the Maxtor 40gb, it may be time to dump it. But first do a
low level format on it.

Also, do not mount it close to any other drive. The Maxtor 40gb gets very
hot and can burn itself out and adversely affect anything else around it.

Your 350w PS is not enough if you are running multiple drives. You need a
500w to give some slack..

The ESATA situation is interesting since I assume that the ESATA drive is
connecting its power from the enclosure it is in and not from your systems
internal power supply.
You might try putting a disk in your DVD drive and setting it as the default
boot device. That way all other drives will have time to spin up before
the BIOS times them out for slow spin up since that should not happen till
after you let the DVD boot option time out.
