AMD 64 1.6GHz, hardwared mirrored SATA disks, 512MB memory,

advanced performance options set for programs.

When copying 200GB files off a shared drive from a win2k system on 100bT link,
Vista RC1 is unresponsive.

Thoughts?

Vista (5744 x86) acts weird (slow) here when copying files Locally or
network. If I initiate the copy from any OTHER O/S, the speed is
normal.
Push the file from W2K/XPpro/W98se to Vista. Good speed.
Pull a Vista file to W2K/XPpro/W98se. Speed good(few minutes/G on a
100M LAN).
Try either from Vista and you are talking over an HOUR (even with the
Firewall and A/V disabled)

Not running Vista here but straight away I have to ask if indexing (assuming
it is present in Vista) is the cause of this. Eg, if Vista has indexing,
have you turned it off and tried the same copy procedure again?
