Default very slow ide DVD read in vista x64

::I installed vista x64 ultimate RC1 on a Gigabyte E45-UD3R motherboard
with 8 megs of RAM. Everything seems to be working fine except for the
DVD read/write drive. Incidentally the hard drives are SATA but the
DVDROM is an ide device. If I put in a blank disk and then burn some
files to it everything is fine and responsive. However if I put this
same disk in at a later time and try to view the files on it then I have
no further control of the computer (until I remove the CD). The same is
true of any commercial CD. Explorer just hangs with the wait icon
circling over the DVDROM symbol. It thus makes it impossible for me to
install any programs via the DVDROM drive. I should mention that the
DVDROM drive shows up fine in device manager. All the window updates
have been done as well as installing the latest BIOS for the
motherboard.::
:: ::
::When I view the above-mentioned CD on a Windows XP computer with the
same brand of DVDROM drive, the files pop up immediately so I know the
CD is fine as well as the burning of the files. ::
