I have been reading the posts on this site for some time and I am impressed
with the depth of knowledge displayed by some of the experts. I hope that you will be able to help me with my problem. I am using a Dell 1720 Inspiron laptop with Vista Home Premium 32 bit. In use for more then one year with no problems until now. A problem has arisen with the Index and Search feature which has defied my attempts to correct. I describe the problem as follows: For example, I wish to locate a file titled 'catalog.xls'. I enter the Start menu and in the Search box at bottom of menu, I write 'c'. The return should be a selection of files grouped as 'PROGRAMS', 'FILES' and 'FAVORITES&HISTORY'. The Favorites and the Programs are there but not the Files. I am certain that the 'catalog.xls' file does exist and it is in the hard drive but my searcher (index) system is failing to locate it or any other files. In my attempts at correcting this, I went to CPIndex Options. States that zero files have been indexed. I then tried to rebuild the index and/or to restore original defaults. No help. I am out of ideas. Any suggestions? Thanks much for your input. |

I may not be understanding your question - what happens when you type the
complete word catalog in the search box? When I type just one letter (like c) there are no 'Files' shown, but as soon as I add the a (as in ca) there are Files that show up. I think this is because there are so many items in the Programs and Favorites that there is no space to include Files. But typing the full word catalog should get your answer. Also, consider trying Windows Key + P to get the main search window. "Robert Hankins" wrote in message .. . Upon typing in 'c', the return is PROGRAMS and FAVORITES AND HISTORY; no
sign of FILES. Upon adding an 'a' for 'ca', return is FAVORITES AND HISTORY only. Upon typing entire word 'catalog'; message NO ITEMS MATCH YOUR SEARCH. Windows +P gets zero response. Thanks for your input. "On Request" wrote in message ... I may not be understanding your question - what happens when you type the complete word catalog in the search box? If you are looking for a user created file, open the start menu, click on your user name, and use the search box in that window. You will have better luck. Even better, if you know that the file is in the documents folder, use that window to search. -- Dave T. You can't imagine the extra work I had when I was a god. - Hirohito, Emporer of Japan |

Sorry, I made an error typing my previous response. Try typing Windows key
+ F to get the main search window. "Robert Hankins" wrote in message ... Upon typing in 'c', the return is PROGRAMS and FAVORITES AND HISTORY; no sign of FILES.
