Default Screen Savers won't work

Hi I recently noticed that I cannot get my screen saver to work aside
from the picture slide show on my acer laptop. Every time I try to
switch it to one of the others (like the 3d text or the bubbles) i
receive this message "the screen saver can't run because it requires a
newer video card or one that's compatible with direct3d" however upon
running a scan of my video card and my video driver the results all say
that it's up to date. It isn't a mouse incompatibility issue as i use
the touch pad (which too was acting funny however i fixed it by
downloading a patch for a dell touch pad). And the screen saver was
working before which is why I do not know why it's not working now.
Please Help!!
