Default External harddisk is read only

I have an external harddisk which continuesly is read only no matter
what i do. I have browsed the net intensively to find a solution, but
can se the problem solved anywhere.

I am running Vista Home Premium x64. When I right click the HD and
click preperties, I dont have a security tab, so I cant do the solutions
that involve that.

thx in advance

It didnt help neither. The take ownership option doesnt show for the
drive. It shows for subfolders, but when I do it, im still not able to
do anything afterwards.
