Default USB Data Recovery - any suggestions?

The title says it all i guess.

One minute it was working, then next minute it wasnt.

The Flash drive is a 16GB USB 2.0 made by ByteStor. I have poked around
various places, but no software ive come across works - so far.

It is recognized by any PC I shove it into as a drive of some sort -
But it cant be accessed, whilst claiming it has no space or storage.

If anyone has any suggestions, post them. It contains my college work
which I decided to skip updating after 3 months because I was too tired.
Now im paying the price.

Flash drives have a finite lifecycle, particulary cheap ones
They should not be used as a data store, simply as a means of moving data
Your next point of call would be a data recovery specialist, most of which
operate on a no recovery no fee basis - be prepared to pay plenty, if they
can help
BTW The new solid state drives will cause even bigger problems with
recovery, if they fail

And not only "cheap ones". We've encountered so many loss-of-data problems
with a wide variety of flash drives (at all price levels) that we advise
users not to store "mission-critical" data on these devices unless they're
also backed up to a CD or HDD or even another flash drive. There's no
question that these flash drives are handy devices on a day-to-day basis,
but we strongly recommend redundant backups for important documents, photos,
etc.

Partially agree, which is why I said use them merely for file transfer.
But then you probably have more experience with data loss problems

DriverSavers, a professional data recovery company, can probably retrieve
your data. However, it won't be cheap. You can call them and find out since
the phone call is free.

http://www.drivesavers.com

If you've already tried data recovery software (at least the free trial
versions) with no luck, then professional recovery is your only option.

R-Studio is very good - http://www.r-tt.com/

Did you try using that drive on another PC running a different OS? Possibly
you may get lucky, depending on the root cause.

It sounds like it's a physical problem with the Flash drive. In that case no
data recovery software will be able to help you. I suggest contacting a data
recovery center in your area. We have used http://www.datanalyzers.com for
recoveries in the past. But you can just google data recovery + your town or
state and then evaluate the data recovery companies.

Best regards
