Hi I am a new user here with a bit of a problem, a few months ago I bought my friends old computer. I knew he had have some problems whit it but I assumed (yes I know big mistake) that it simply had to do with his low power output. The motherboard and the main processor was sent to the retailer and checked and came back with a clean bill of health. I since switched the cooler for the processing unit and went with more power. Well that helped a little, after this I was able to watch 1080p movies without any BSOD for most of the time but I still got BSOD once every 24 h. I quickly identified the source of that problem as being AVG security 8.0.277, every time the program ran a search for viruses the computer crashed, so I removed it and with it that specific problem went away. The computer still crashes although more randomly then before, for the most part I can do heavy things like watching a 1080p movies without incident but sometimes it crashes. I get at least one BSOD a day at different times all with the same BCcode 124. I have exhausted myself trying to find a solution and have been unable to use windbg since I for some reason can’t set a valid path file to symbols. This is really my last resort, short of throwing the computer out the window. Below I will past relevant information about the problem and my computer, if you need more just say and I will supply it as quickly as possible .I will also attach the dmb file and a systems report by Sandra so someone can have a look at it. The computer specs can be viewed in the system report. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. 7842 7843 Problem signature Problem Event Name: BlueScreen OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.256.1 Locale ID: 1053 Files that help describe the problem (some files may no longer be available) Mini033009-01.dmp sysdata.xml Version.txt Extra information about the problem BCCode: 124 BCP1: 0000000000000000 BCP2: FFFFFA80095B8030 BCP3: 00000000F60EA000 BCP4: 0000000000000136 OS Version: 6_0_6001 Service Pack: 1_0 Product: 256_1 -- yseptis ------------------------------------------------------------------------ yseptis's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/83348.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/windows-v...ce/1151098.htm http://forums.techarena.in |

I would suggest you check the computer case for proper cooling. When you run
a virus scan you are really working the CPU. Each file checked must be opened, checked and then closed. This really works the CPU and will cause it to run at an elevated temperature. If your cooling is not up to snuff your computer may well shut down to prevent damage. The video card may also overheat under these circumstances. Check the cooling fins beneath the CPU cooling fan. Are they clean and free of dirt/dust? Does the computer run just fine with the side of the case removed and a small fan blowing gently into the case? You may have to add additional cooling fans to the case to bring down the internal temps when the system is working hard. A front fan blowing air into the case and a rear fan blowing air out of the case is recommended. If the computer is old the case may not have a provision for a front fan. -- Richard Urban Microsoft MVP Windows Desktop Experience "yseptis" wrote in message ... Starting he
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb725851.aspx Assuming x64 architecture, your error is actually writing a record at Stop Code Parameter 2 which can be interpreted by windbg using an extension file. (kdexts.dll) The Event Log also records WHEA errors, but it may be a bit difficult to retrieve these: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa939042.aspx This will not cover every conceivable error, but if it falls in the following list, you might be able to go directly to the problem: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb870197.aspx "yseptis" wrote in message ... Update: I have 2 fans in the front of the casing blowing air into the computer and 1 fan in the back blowing air out of the computer, i also have a big 180 fan on the top of the casing blowing air out. The new cooler that i placed on the processor is a Freezer 64 Pro from arctic-cooling. So it should not be a temperature problem. I have the latest rivers for my video card as far as i can tell. How do I reset the videocard? -- yseptis ------------------------------------------------------------------------ yseptis's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/83348.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/windows-v...ce/1151098.htm http://forums.techarena.in |

Hi Noticed that when the temperature got higher in my apartment the frequency of the BSOD:s got higher, i was now having atleast 2-3 a day ( 28 degrees Celsius). That would suggest that the computer is getting to hot but as i described before i have good cooling and when feeling inside of the computer noting feels particularly hot. If the BSOD code 124 is related to the grafics card it could mean that the card or something on it is getting to hot but touching the passiv cooling on the card it feels hot, but not overly hot. Tried reseating the card as someone suggested, and whilst doing that i vacuumed and cleaned the computer the best i could. It did not appear to have helped with the problem so any other suggestion would be received thankfully. My studies take up a lot of time right now and im not always at home so that is the reason i cant daily update on progress. -- yseptis ------------------------------------------------------------------------ yseptis's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/83348.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/windows-v...ce/1151098.htm http://forums.techarena.in |

If you feel competent to take the machine apart look for blown capacitors on the video card of motherboard. My experience is that it IS dependent on ambient temperature http://www.badcaps.net/ |
